4/11/08 Sealant Clinic

Today Went really fast. We only had 21 students to screen and place sealants. Most of us only saw 1 student and it made the sealant clinic a lot shorter. Also I think we are getting faster. I like the clinics because it gives me more opportunity to see mixed dentitions.

Mockboard

This was the first mockboard I felt good about. I didn't pass partly because I didn't take any radiographs. I missed some spots but I still felt like I can take the real board now. I realized that the extra teeth is where I miss and so I am just going to have to spend more time on those teeth than I am right now and I will do fine.

4/3/08

I did my production day today. I saw an 1b and a 1a this morning which went good. Then in the afternoon I saw my board patient so I could take x-rays and she told me at 1:50 that she had to go to work so I didn't get any retakes done. Then I did sealants on someone else's patient, that was good. I thought he was old enough to know what keep your mouth open means but I don't think he did because he just kept closing his mouth. Then I took a pano on my sister which went fine. I saw 5 patients total so it was a pretty good day and I got a PE done.

3/27/08

I am done with my threes!!!! I am having a hard time today and I think part of it is from boards. It wiped me out and I feel like I need two days just to sleep and let my brain come back. I did learn some things today. I learned more about the SIU 17/18 and I really like that instrument. Also I had a good improvement session with my ultrasonicing, I have never been really fond of the ultrasonic but I think I might like it more now.

Anesthesia Boards

In the anesthesia board, the examiners really do want you to pass and they are really nice. The written is hard but it is manageable. I think I studied too deeply into certain topics and the questions were more basic than I thought they would be. The injections were fine and I didn't shake as much as I usually do. I really didn't have anything go wrong while giving my injections just my needle fell out of the cap and the syringe on to the counter while I was trying to clean up but I must have handled it ok because I passed. How you handle the situations that come up is the important part and just ask the rest of my class, a lot can go wrong. :~)

3/20/08

Today was a good day for me. I got done with two quads of my class three exam patient and all of my class 2 exam patient. Also I had some new experiences and learned some new techniques. First I was reminded why I need to sharpen my instruments more often and that I can and sometimes should go back to my ultrasonic for really hard to get pieces of calculus. Today my second patient had very pronounced CEJs and that was a new experience the more pronounced they were the more calculus they and the harder it was to get off. I used almost every instrument in my perio cassette and after that was when Prof Alexander used my ultrasonic to help get it off.

1/7/08

Today was mockboards and it was awful. I saw my patient before and it went great. I didn't miss any spots. For the mockboard I cleaned the mandibular arch and I missed 9 spots. My day started out bad, I took x-rays and got into the dark room and found that the developer was off so I ended up waiting about 15 minutes so I lost 36 minutes of my scaling time. Then my patient was super sensitive and didn't want to get numb. It is hard to clean someone who is continually jumping. I learned some things and I am determined to pass my next mockboard.

1/31/08

Today felt like it was a pointless day. In the morning I found a patient but then he had high blood pressure. Then the afternoon I thought that it might be more perio than a 1B, but he wasn't. I have enough 1Bs to kill a horse and I still haven't done my simulation day. It is very frustrating when I can only find 1Bs and class 5's.

1/24/08

Today was a good day I saw one of my favorite patients, she was my second patient I ever cleaned. Then in the afternoon I saw a fourteen year old and she was really easy too. I was interesting because she doesn't floss but doesn't have calculus but she has a lot of caries and fillings in her mouth. I scaled the fourteen year old within the time allowed for a 1B which was good.
