2/28/07 clinic

Today my goal was to scale all four quads of my class 2 patient. My patient ended up having a lot more sub calculus than I expected. I took forever getting the scaling done but I learned a lot from instructor hemsley and aimee about improving my technique and little tricks. Even though today did not turn out like I hoped it was a good learning experience. Next time I will get out my gracies in the beginning.

2/26/07 Clinic

Today my goal was to just find a patient. I found a patient but she didn't get here until 9am. I finished my patient in the appointment today. Afterwards I thought to myself I can do this in real life. Today was my one day that went almost perfect.

2/21/07 clinic

Today my goal is to get through a full mouth set of x-rays and finish my patient. I tried to manage my time and not take to long scaling. My patient had a lot of build up since the last cleaning on the lower right side. I cleaned the lower left quad and I seem to miss right by the contacts. I removed all the other calculus. I only had to retake one x-ray in the full mouth and so that made me feel like I can take x-rays. I finished my patient out on time and I felt like today went well.

2/12 clinic

Today my goal is to get all the way through my patient and to improve my time with the OD section. I did improve my OD time and I finished my patient. My patient had sheet calculus and this is the first time I have seen it and I hate it. It took forever and I still had to have my instructor help me. Just one day I want my patient to be on time and have everything go perfect. All I am asking for is one day so I can walk away saying I can do this and this is my proof.

2/14 clinic

Today my goal was to learn the ultrasonic. I went over the module and the PE in preparation. I think that I understand the concept really well but the scribbling motion is still a little hard for me. I guess like everything else this will improve with practice. I passed off two of my PEs today and that is a relief because it is hard to have time with treating patients to get them passed off.

2/7/07 clinic

Today my goal was to get atleast two quads done. I came early and set up my unit and had everything ready. I was pretty good at managing time. My goal wasn't fufilled because my patient came half an hour late. I think that if my patient had been on time I would have gotten two quads done. Next time I see him I will have to set my goal to get all four quads done in one appointment.

2/5 clinic

Today my goal was to make it through my first spanish speaking patient. I picked up the paper that has some spanish terms and phrases. I was afraid to use some of the phrases because I didn't know how to say them and any phrases I knew were used in the first five minutes. My patient was really nice and cooperative but it was really hard because I didn't know how to explain toothbrushing, periodontal disease, flossing, etc. Lily was really helpful which I appreciated a lot. It took a lot of time because I spent half of my day finding someone to interpret for me. It was hard but it was a good experience.
